Scottish cricket stars are 20/20 specialists thanks to Black & Lizars

Black & Lizars has shown its support for Scotland’s leading international cricketers by announcing a partnership with the Scottish Cricketers Association (SCA).

This week, the leading optician welcomed players, including the 2018 ICC Associate Player of the Year Calum MacLeod, to its Frederick Street branch in Edinburgh to celebrate the partnership. There, the Scotland internationals received a free eye test and learned some valuable lessons about the importance of eye health for players at all levels.

The agreement entitles Scottish cricket players to complimentary enhanced eye exams using the very latest Optomap technology and 3D OCT scanning, which can examine 80% of a customer’s retina - five times more than a standard retinal exam – and detect any eye conditions at the earliest opportunity.

Ahead of a busy period of fixtures, which includes the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in October, first team players will benefit from a 40% discount on Oakley sunglasses.

The SCA is the representative body for professional and international cricketers in Scotland, protecting the rights and interests of all players north of the border.

Allan Beckett, Director at Black & Lizars, said: “After some superb recent performances, including a famous victory over England in 2018, interest in Scottish cricket has never been greater.

“With another busy summer of fixtures ahead, we will work with cricketers and coaches across the country to highlight the importance of eye health.

“Visual skills and eye health are absolutely vital for the sport, both to avoid injury and to improve decision making. We would encourage all players, regardless of age, ability or experience, to ensure their eyes are checked regularly.”

Scotland international Alasdair Evans said: “As a professional cricketer, good vision is just as important – if not more so – than physical fitness.

“The game is won and lost by extremely fine margins, and I wouldn’t be able to play at this level without my eyes being in full working order.

“It’s an exciting time for the sport in this country. Our partnership with Black & Lizars will allow the players to be at the very top of their game, as they will have access to the very best service, knowledge, treatment and customer care. "
