Working in Practice during Covid-19 - Edinburgh Hub day 2

Day 2 of our Edinburgh Working in practice during Covid-19 series is to show you in a bit more detail how our Independent Prescribing Optometrist, Eilidh, has been maximising the use of technology to assist and advise our patients.

Over the last few weeks, she has been using technology like video calls to examine her patients remotely.  The video shows her examining a lady with dry eyes and teaching her to instil her eyedrops correctly.  She has even used video call to talk someone through how to remove their mum's contact lens when it became dislodged in the eye.

Eilidh has also been able to send prescriptions directly to a patient's pharmacist after diagnosing their condition over phone or video call. This has been very useful in minimising social contact, and the patients have been very grateful for this efficient process.

Eilidh represents Black and Lizars on the Optometry Scotland Executive Committee. She is currently involved in a working group investigating how eye examinations can be undertaken safely in a post-COVID climate.  I’m sure you’ll agree she’s a very busy lady!
