Spotting Scopes
Spotting Scopes (also sometimes referred to as field 'scope, terrestrial telescope, or simply telescope) are popular with birdwatchers, wildlife stalkers and people who have windows with a view. They provide a higher magnification than that available with standard binoculars. We carry a wide range of spotting scopes and telescopes with prices starting at just £129.99 for the Opticron Piccolo.
This telescope's lightweight and compact design has made it one of our top sellers. It has a zoom range of 15x for wide angled views, up to 45x magnification for detailed close-ups. It is an ideal starting spotting scope and includes a table-top tripod - essential for any optical instrument of 12x magnification or higher.
We also carry a range of 'high end' spotting scopes from Leica and Swarovski, for example the Swarovski ATS80HD. This telescope is a perennial favourite with birdwatchers, featuring full waterproofing, rugged build quality and the ability to yield bright, crisp images with virtually no colour aberration. In common with most telescopes of this calibre, the body and eyepiece are sold separately according to your requirements. As with binoculars or indeed any optical instrument, you do get what you pay for. Paying more will of course ensure better build quality, looks and ease of use, but mainly it is the image quality that will improve. This is achieved through the use of superior glass, sophisticated optical coatings (to aid light transmission) and better designed prisms and other internal components.
Due to their relatively high magnification (compared with binoculars) all spotting scopes must be supported on a tripod or similar support device.
