Specialist Services - Dyslexia Testing

Everyday tasks such as reading and writing can be extremely difficult for anyone suffering from dyslexia and other reading disorders. Although these problems are usually associated with children, our clinic welcomes both adults and children.

Research has shown that changing the colour of reading material can dramatically improve reading skills. Assessment initially involves the use of coloured overlays which are placed over the top of reading text. The optometrist will help the patient select an overlay of the colour which best meets their needs, and will investigate the rate of reading with and without the overlay.

The overlay is then used by the patient for a short period. If this proves successful further assessment may be carried out using an intuitive colorimeter, a machine which allows selection of the appropriate colour of precision tinted lenses to be used in the patient's spectacles in place of the overlay. This will lead to improved concentration and less eyestrain and headaches.
