About Hearing Loss

Life is made up of all kinds of sounds: birds chirping, waves crashing, a loved one's voice.  These are among the thousands of sounds that help enrich our lives.  Most of the time when hearing changes, it changes gradually.  Sounds get softer and voices can seem muffled.  Gradual hearing loss is often noticed by family and loved ones before an individual recognises a change in hearing.

Unfortunately as the sounds of life fade, so does its richness.  People with untreated hearing loss often find themselves avoiding social gatherings and activities where communication is difficult.

Questions about Hearing

  • Do you often ask others to repeat what they say?
  • Have friends and family expressed concern about your hearing?
  • Do you avoid certain social situations because you have difficulty hearing?
  • Do you often set the TV or radio louder than others would prefer?
  • Does background noise interfere with your ability to follow conversation?
  • Do you have a history of noise exposure, either from work or from noisy hobbies (motorcycles, power tools, loud music, etc.)?
  • Do you have tinnitus or ringing in your ears? (Ringing in the ears does not necessarily mean you have a hearing loss, but there are solutions for this).

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, it's time to get your hearing checked.  And there's good news!  Early treatment of hearing loss can improve quality of life. Book an appointment at our hearing centre in Giffnock.
